The Clarion Music Society celebrated the 60th anniversary of its founding with a Masked Gala on Tuesday April 4th, 2017 with 250 guests at the JW Marriott Essex House in New York City.
Clarion encompasses one of the oldest and most highly regarded period-instrument orchestras in America, The Clarion Orchestra, which has been called ‘stellar’ and ‘polished’ by The New York Times, and ‘legendary’ by The New Yorker, and The Clarion Choir, which has been featured on PBS’s NYC-Arts program. Their recording, Passion Week, received a 2017 GRAMMY® nomination for Best Choral Performance, as well as a nomination for the BBC Music Magazine Choral Award (UK.)
Tatiana Pouschine was honored with the Clarion Philanthropic Award for her generous support of Clarion. Barbaralee Diamonstein-Spielvogel presented the award to Ms. Pouschine. The evening began with a cocktail hour where Clarion musicians performed. This was followed by a seated dinner complemented with performances by The Clarion Orchestra, and special guest solists including: American soprano Lauren Snouffer; Chinese baritone Yunpeng Wang and Guatemalan tenor Mario Chang, who are both graduates of the Metropolitan Opera Lindenann Young Artists’ Program; and Israeli-born conductor and pianist Nimrod David Pfeffer.
